My name is Sebastian Felix and I am seventeen years old. I am the lead singer and guitarist of Bash the Band along with Adrian Rodriguez (19) on drums, Michael Russo (19) on bass, and O.J. Lara (18) on guitar. I first picked up a guitar when I was eleven years old and after a year of mastering it I began to write my own music.
Eventually I found an interest in singing, drums and bass. I auditioned at Sonic Ranch Studios, and recorded my debut album in the fall of 2007 there in Tornillo, which was an amazing experience. That winter and spring, I had many copies of my debut album made and began to distribute them as much as possible.
As people began taking an interest and catching an ear for my music, the question of playing live shows came up. Since I could not play all the instruments live like I had recorded them, I was recommended to hire professional musicians. However, this was not what I wanted to do, I wanted to find some other musicians my age that shared my passion to play my music live. At Eastwood High School I found Chris Frias and Michael Russo, and living near my father's small business I found our amazing drummer Adrian Rodriguez. They learned to play all of my songs and eventually we began writing our own songs together as a band. In the summer of 2008 we began promoting ourselves with the gracious help of my father Pete Felix III as our manager. Over the course of the summer we played at various venues to gain exposure, plunging quickly and fiercely into the El Paso music scene. We quickly gained a name for ourselves and got radio play on KLAQ for the first time of many times to come. The Bash epidemic spread as we started playing at bigger and bigger bars and clubs around El Paso.
During the fall of 2008, a year later after my first album "Predicted," I found myself recording my second album "Trapped In," with my amazing band members. We began playing larger venues, including Cub 101 and many shows at Take II Lounge for our CD release party as well as opening for big bands such as Aranda, Pop Evil, and Del Castillo. We have also become a KLAQ favorite here in El Paso, having been first picked for Locofest 2008, Locofest 2009, KLAQ's Go Green Expo two years in a row, Balloonfest 2009 and Rock The Fort opening for Fuel most recently.
We came in contact with Jesus Christ Superstar's Jeff Fenholt and Alice Cooper's Ken Mary and recorded three songs at Sonic Phish Studios in Pheonix, Arizona. After having an amazing recording experience, we returned 3 more times to play the local venues such as Club Red and Joe's Grotto and to record the remaining six songs that were to be released in our third album, "Stop the Angel's Cry."
"Stop the Angel's Cry" is absolutely our best work yet. Working with Ken Mary in Phoenix and having him bring out the best in us musically and bringing out the best in our music was nothing short of incredible. We released our third studio album "Stop the Angel's Cry" in January of 2010 and had a largely successful CD Release Party at Club 101 in El Paso, Tx.
During the end of Spring 2010, Chris Frias, who had been with the band through the second and third album, left and was replaced with O.J. Lara who we found through a series of auditions.
Since then we have played in Hollywood on the famed Sunset Strip at the Whisky a Go Go and the Cat Club numerous times. We also opened up for We Are The Fallen and performed for the troops at White Sands Missile Range. We also performed at the Plaza Theatre for the Classic Film Festival and opened up for Y&T at the Rayne Theatre.
We would not be able to share or create our music in such a way if it was not for my father, Pete Felix III, who has supported us and our music all along.
Creating my music and excelling in what I do has been a great adventure and I will continue to write and share my music in hopes of being discovered by a record company. However, we would like to stress that it is, in no way, our intention to be mainstream artists. We create our music because it is our passion; we do it for the music and the love of playing and performing. The lyrics in our music are all about my personal experiences. People find it hard to believe that I could write about such passionate issues at such a young age. This continues to be our dream and we will never stop to achieve it.
Take a listen. -
